Paradox is Corel Office's local desktop relational database management suite similar to Microsoft Access and Open Office's Base. Most often these local desktop database systems are used in small business purposes, mailing lists, keeping track of customers, etc. It is capable of some amazingly fast application development, point-and-click, little programming required! This is a great product for tracking business activities and generating reports to justify time, expense, etc...
The choice for the name given to Core's Office Suite, "WordPerfect" is a choice made to take advantage of the name recognition for wordperfect, a word processing application that just as easily could have had the current notoriety of Microsoft's Word. Each of these applications developed under immediate and intense competition with one another. The result was that each is just as good and versatile as one another. However, the name "Corel" most often recalled in graphics editing software which has much early success, seamed to loose value as competition in digital graphics editing systems increased.
That being said, it is our opinion that the name "Corel" has a fine history in software development, and should be seized upon to become the name of the next version of their office suite package, becoming "Corel Office." Using the name of a word processing application as the title for the entire suite diminishes somehow the value of the entire ensemble. Imagine Microsoft Office being called 'Word Office'. It just doesn't seem right. And Corel is a fine name.
