WordPerfect was, is, and continues to be direct competition for Microsoft's Word word processing program for the last 20 years or so. Word processing applications are for writing letters, books, etc. Now that competition is shared with Open Offices "Writer." WordPerfect is included in Corel's Office suite called "WordPerfect Office." Odd name for the office suite, but in the market place you have to do what you can to maximize name recognition and familiarity. Any one of these three applications are so well developed that any one of which will pretty much do everything the other will do, and there is typically general convertibility between each of them. So if your application is up to date with all the conversion tools, a WordPerfect document can be opened in Open Office Writer, and then later edited more in Microsoft's Word.
