"Google Web App's" (web applications) are essentially software created by someone else, which you install into your web site or setup your own user ID and password and access the web appliction through their web site. Google has a number of web applications, and the list has been growing. Many of Google web app's are the type where you access them through google.com and others are copy and paste code to be added to your web site.

"These web applications, built into the Google account framework, are a major step in individual personal user internet applications, especially since you don't have to join any special social netork website, anyone outside of any social network website can use these tools, and there are no subscription membership fees," Richard Smalley.

Some web app's are so all encompassing, that it is called a "content management system or CMS" which amounts to 90% of the structure of a web site. Other web app's are as small as a simple clock display, and others are anything in between including menu systems. Other examples are blogs, forums, photo galleries, etc.

Web app's that can be installed onto your web site offer an easy way to take advantage of another's hard work to quickly develop your web site without re-inventing the wheel from scratch. As Isaac Newton said, "... stand upon the shoulders of giants," yet always give credit to where credit is due, unless you pay for it... Some web app's must be purchased, others are entirely free so long as you give public credit where credit is due. And others you may choose to either publish the software creator's name (or whomever owns intellectual property for the software) or pay the purchase price. This facilitates rapid and rich development internet wide, and offers compensation or free advertising for the software creator. It's win win all around! And ultimately, it's not the form that people come to see, it's the content. Don't be afraid to use web app's to get your content out there. Many web hosting providers include various web applications which can be installed for FREE right from the control panel for your web site.
